The Pacific Forum is an Association formed by 16 Pacific Island Nations to build regional capacity and capability. Building successful businesses in the region requires business people to understand what capability is required in order to be competitive, and how to acquire this capability across the region. They don’t want theory, they want tools that will enable continuous performance improvement.

QLBS.com in association with the Pacific forum and Europe Union are conducting a series of workshops throughout the region providing the Economic Development Agencies with the tools that enable them to identify what they need to do to improve their business functionality. These QLBS.com assessment tools are linked to the World Bank SME toolkit which provides some solutions. All tools are available via the internet so that knowledge transfer, benchmarking and regional strategies can be developed. In addition, the business capabilities can be cross compared to the work done amongst the Maori and Pacific Island businesses of New Zealand.

Workshops have been held in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga with more to come in PNG, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia. These workshops complement the work done among the Pacific Island and Maori businesses of New Zealand. During the process of training the business development managers of those islands, a database of business risk and capability profiles is being developed. This provides early indications of the regional requirements for business capability. More significantly, the business development community has received not only tools but also specific business assessment and performance improvement training. Enhanced skills and the use of the tools drives the capability development and continuous improvement of local businesses.
