Cook Islands workshops seen as goldmine

Workshops aimed at making the Cook Islands a better place to do business and its businesses more efficient have been hailed as a goldmine for the islands’ community at large.

Andrew Kwek, QLBS.com’s director of business development, recently ran workshops in the Cook Islands at the invitation of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.

The four day workshop was aimed at business advisors supporting business owners and introduced them to best practice principals.

QLBS.com’s technology was used to help workshop participants analyse businesses, prepare action plans and establish best practice benchmarks. The idea is to help Cook Islands companies make changes and to measure the effect of those changes to their bottom line.

One workshop participant told the Cook Islands News that he was looking at the possibilities of expanding businesses into other avenues that don’t already exist in Rarotonga and the wider islands.

Others said Cook Islands SMEs experiencing hardship would get the help to refocus, renovate and boost their markets.

Mr Kwek says he has received positive feedback after the workshops. Using real-life examples had made it easier for people to relate to their own businesses.

One person described the workshops as a “goldmine - not just for myself, but the community at large”.
